FS 15 Specular Image

This is a tutorial for making a Specular dds image for FS 15.  Paint.NET is used as the image editor.  A similar process should work fine using any other image editor capable of saving to dds format.

For this example, I have de-constructed the Specular Map from the Giants FS 15 sample mod.

Step One:  Combine the greyscale Dirt map, AO map, and Specular map as separate layers in one image.  All images need to be the same size.  In this case 2048 x 2048. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n500/Roma_Victa/FS%2015%20Specular%20Tutorial/Initial_Layers.jpg~original

Step Two:  Add three new layers arranged as shown below.  Flood fill these layers with pure red, green, blue respectively. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n500/Roma_Victa/FS%2015%20Specular%20Tutorial/Color_Layers.jpg~original

Step Three:  Set the layer properties for all three color layers (Red, Green, Blue) to “Multiply”. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n500/Roma_Victa/FS%2015%20Specular%20Tutorial/layerProp_multiply.jpg

Step Four:  Select the solid red layer and merge down.  Select the solid green layer and merge down.  Select the solid blue layer and merge down.  This leaves us with three properly colored layers. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n500/Roma_Victa/FS%2015%20Specular%20Tutorial/colored_layer_stack.jpg

Step Five:  Select the top layer (specular – red) and set the layer properties to “Additive”.  Merge the top layer down.  Repeat this process with the AO – green layer, Set to “Additive and merge down. http://i1136.photobucket.com/albums/n500/Roma_Victa/FS%2015%20Specular%20Tutorial/Additive_Merge.jpg
