Adding extra terrain texture to your own map [FS15]

What is a terrain texture? It's the dirt, sand, rock, cobblestone etc. textures that you place within the Giants editor.

For this tutorial I will be using robbie's 'my blank starter map' http://fs-uk.com/mods/view/35390 But this tutorial will work on any FS15 map

Programs you need

Giants editor http://gdn.giants-software.com/editor.php Notepad++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Last the files for your chosen new terrain texture

Adding your new terrain texture files

For this tutorial I will just be using a copy of the default rock texture that I have renamed 'newterrain'

First you need to install & add the new terrain texture files into your maps folder.

There are four files that are needed for each new terrain texture.

These are to installed in the following folders.

…\mods\map\map\map01\newterrain_weight.png

…\mods\map\map\textures\terrain\newterrain_diffuse.dds

…\mods\map\map\textures\terrain\newterrain_distance_diffuse

…\mods\map\map\textures\terrain\newterrain_normal.dds

Adding the new code to the i3d file

Using notepad++ open up your map 'map01'i3D file

Just copy and paste the below code but renaming the text in red to match the name of your new terrain files.

Under <Files> add

:

<File fileId=“1000” filename=“map01/newterrain_weight.png” relativePath=“true”/>
<File fileId=“1001” filename=“textures/terrain/newterrain_diffuse.png” relativePath=“true”/>
<File fileId=“1002” filename=“textures/terrain/newterrain_distance_diffuse.png” relativePath=“true”/>
<File fileId=“1003” filename=“textures/terrain/newterrain_normal.png” relativePath=“true”/>

under <Scene> then <Layers> add

:

<Layer name=“newterrain” detailMapId=“1001” normalMapId=“1003” unitSize=“16” weightMapId=“1000” distanceMapId=“1002” distanceMapUnitSize=“128” attributes=“0.157 0.153 0.149 0” priority=“5”/>

under <Scene> then <Layers> then <LayerPair add

:

<LayerPair base=“newterrain” top=“dirt” depthScale=“0.4” sharpness=“1”/>
<LayerPair base=“newterrain” top=“grass” depthScale=“0.8” sharpness=“3”/>

Now load up your map in the Giants editor and your new texture will be in the drop down list and can be displayed.

It is important that you place some of your new texture down and the save the map then exit the editor, also do this before adding anymore new textures.

To add more textures just repeat the above.
